The primary purpose of the Medical Assistant (MA) position is to act as a clinical assistant in preparing patients for medical visits and procedures. The MA is accountable and responsible for providing quality patient care through the appropriate use of resources in collaboration with the clinical nurse and other inter-professional team members.  Acts as a patient and family advocate to uphold patient rights.  

The ideal candidate will possess a high school diploma or equivalent and at least one year of experience as a Medical Assistant.

Shift: Monday – Friday alternating shifts between 7:00 am – 3:30 pm, 7:30 am – 4:00 pm, and 8:00 am – 4:30 pm 

Salary Range:
•    Minimum: $43,000
•    Midpoint: $54,000
•    Maximum: $62,000

Key Functions

The Outpatient MA must possess the following abilities and/or characteristics: Ability to assist with multiple clinic operational activities, while in collaboration with clinical nurse, thoracic medical oncologist, thoracic surgeons, Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), residents, and other multidisciplinary team members. 

The MA must be able to follow instructions, practice independently, while establishing and maintaining positive cooperative working relationships, flexibility, interpersonal verbal and written communication skills, computer proficiency, organizational skills, problem-solving skills, resourcefulness, and self-motivation.

Specific competencies include: 
Prepare clinics for the day; stock and prepare exam rooms; assist with pre and post-surgical patient supplies; assist with procedural setup; effective interaction with electronic health records; assist with patient administrative documents; obtain patient vital signs; accurate entry of patient information in medical record while providing rooming documentation support; notification of abnormal parameters to the clinical nurse; safely escort and transport patients in wheelchairs/stretchers; clean, store, prepare, coordinate and report any equipment in need of repair/maintenance; audit and maintain inventory of medical supplies; other duties assigned. 

EDUCATION

Required: High school diploma/equivalent.
Preferred: Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program or US Military medical services training program.

EXPERIENCE

Required: One year of medical assistant experience.  With preferred degree, no experience is required.
Preferred: One year of medical assistant experience.

CERTIFICATION

Required: None

Preferred: Certified by one of the following, based on Medical Assistant experience or preferred education:  

Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by the American Society of Medical Technologists (AMT)
Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
