The Biomedical Technician Supervisor supports the Clinical Engineering department by overseeing maintenance, calibration, installation, upgrades, and technical support for patient medical and other electronic equipment across the institution. The Biomedical Technician Supervisor guides technicians in delivering timely, safe, and cost‑effective equipment support. As part of this mission, the Biomedical Technician Supervisor ensures compliance with hospital procedures, regulatory expectations, and equipment management standards.
MD Anderson Cancer Center is a leading institution focused on cancer care, research, education, and prevention. The Biomedical Technician Supervisor plays a critical role in maintaining safe and reliable equipment that directly supports patient care excellence.
 

**The ideal candidate brings a strong background in biomedical equipment technology, hands‑on experience with maintenance and calibration, supervisory or team‑lead experience, and relevant technical certifications. A foundation in regulatory compliance, vendor coordination, and project management is also highly valuable.**
Minimum $92,500 – Midpoint $115,500 – Maximum $138,500

The typical work schedule is onsite within the Clinical Engineering department.

Responsibilities
Technical Support & Equipment Management

Analyze, maintain, calibrate, install, and upgrade electronic, electromechanical, mechanical, pneumatic, and general patient‑care medical equipment.
Deliver solid technical support demonstrating proficiency across equipment types.
Adapt quickly to new technologies to meet department needs.
Perform incident investigations and implement corrective actions to reduce repeat occurrences.
Utilize required software tools to support equipment operations effectively.

Project Management & Coordination

Manage projects consistent with experience and departmental expectations.
Ensure products and services supported by Clinical Engineering are delivered by established due dates.
Provide pre‑purchase evaluations, service contract assessments, and cost‑effective recommendations.
Coordinate with vendors to complete required equipment support activities.
Oversee spare parts coordination for assigned medical equipment.

Customer Communication & Service Support

Communicate with clients to access equipment, resolve issues, and minimize downtime.
Maintain open and constructive communication via conversations and email throughout repair processes.
Provide operational in‑services to reduce operator errors and improve patient care quality.
Support financial responsibility by ensuring efficient, appropriate use of resources.

Supervisory & Operational Oversight

Supervise daily activities of assigned technicians, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures.
Provide orientation, coaching, training, and performance evaluations.
Implement corrective actions and staffing adjustments to meet operational needs.
Ensure compliance with institutional and regulatory guidelines governing biomedical support.
Perform additional duties as assigned.

 

EDUCATION

  • Required: Associate's Degree Biomedical Technology (BMET) or Electronic Engineering.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree Biomedical Engineering or Electronic Engineering.

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Required: 5 years Biomedical technology experience, to include one year of supervisory or lead experience. or
  • Required: 3 years Required experience with Bachelor's degree.
  • May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis.
  • Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate and/or LEADing Self Discover programs may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience. Completion of both programs can be substituted for a maximum of two years of supervisory or management experience.
  • Preferred: 7 years BMET, military BMET or hospital manufacturer field service experience with three years of supervisory experience. Broad understanding of medical device lifecycle management, regulatory compliance, and risk management. 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
