ABOUT PERIOPERATIVE SERVICES:
Our Perioperative Services team is committed to providing the safest surgical environment while achieving the highest quality outcomes. In collaboration with Anesthesiology, Critical Care, Nursing, and Surgery, we perform over 15,000 surgical cases annually across 30+ operating rooms in the Main Building and Mays Clinic.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Surgical Technologist supports surgical procedures by preparing and maintaining the sterile field, ensuring all instruments and equipment are ready and functioning, and assisting the surgical team to deliver safe and efficient patient care.
The ideal candidate will have recent Operating Room experience as a Surgical Technologist in Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, or Robotics service lines.
SHIFT:
Shift will be determined based on institutional needs. The first 6 months include Operating Room Orientation, Monday – Friday, 6:30am – 3:00pm.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Accountability & Safety:
Adhere to all safety protocols, policies, and procedures
Identify and address breaks in technique or unsafe conditions
Maintain organization and efficiency in workflow, ensuring on-time case starts and quick turnovers
Properly handle, store, and maintain surgical supplies and equipment
Demonstrate flexibility and cross-train in different surgical services
Clinical Excellence:
Prepare and set up surgical instruments and equipment
Ensure all necessary materials are available per preference cards while minimizing waste
Maintain sterility and proper aseptic techniques throughout procedures
Conduct sponge, instrument, and sharps counts per policy
Assist in labeling, handling, and transporting specimens according to protocol
Collaborate with the surgical team to anticipate needs and optimize patient safety
Team Collaboration:
Communicate effectively with team members to ensure seamless surgical procedures
Actively contribute to a positive and professional work environment
Support colleagues by offering assistance and recognizing their contributions
Seek continuous learning opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge
Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
CERTIFICAITON/LICENSURE:
Required one of the following: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) or by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA). New graduate must obtain and maintain certification by the 180th day after date of hire date. Employed to practice surgical technology in a health care facility prior to September 1, 2009. Completed appropriate training program for surgical technology in the military of the United States or in the United States Public Health Service.
