Education Required: 
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline.

Certification Required:
None

Preferred Certification: 
RCDD, Network+, CCNA, CCNP, Systimax Cabling Training, A+, ITILv3

Experience Required: 
Five years of experience in technology support, analysis, or project management, to include two years lead/supervisory experience.  May substitute required degree for additional years of related experience on a one to one year basis.  Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate program may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience.

Preferred Experience: 
•    Strong communications skills with excellent spoken and written English are required.  Must be able to explain difficult abstract concepts verbally and in writing through presentations. Ability to communicate clearly with individual computing users and other staff on all levels - in small groups, one on one, and in writing is required.
•    Proven experience as a problem solver.
•    Knowledge of Cisco Local Area Network switches required. 
•    Knowledge of wireless network equipment.
•    Knowledge of how to configure, install, monitor, and troubleshoot the physical installation of Layer 2 switching devices, Layer 1 devices, and all their associated equipment.
•    Initiative and ability to work independently and willingness to proactively learn new skills is required.
•    Knowledge of inside plant wiring standards.
•    Knowledge of outside plant cabling standards. 
•    Knowledge of standards and practices involved with different types of buildings and the methods used to penetrate and install wiring, to include all horizontal and vertical wiring.
•    Able to read and follow simple wiring and network diagrams.
•    Able to terminate and test both copper and fiber optic cables.
•    Knows how to use various test equipment such as TDR, OTDR, Network Analyzers, 10/100/1000 cable tester, Multi-meter, Network Analyzers, and all common electronic test equipment and techniques to be able to successfully resolve a network problem.
•    Knows IEEE, TIA/EIA, ANSI, and UT MDACC wiring/cabling, telecommunications room, infrastructure standards and practices.  
•    Knowledge of the principles and techniques wiring installation, troubleshooting and maintenance, operating principles, methods, practices, options, and limitations of both copper and fiber optic cables.
•    Experience installing boards and memory into systems is required.
•    Requires an ability to work well under pressure, frequently with minimal supervision.
•    Knowledge of support for uninterruptible power source (UPS) and basics power requirements for network equipment.
•    This is a complex job requiring the application of diverse skills, both mental and manual.  Knowledge of state of the art electronics and networking techniques must be applied in all areas of the position. 
•    Experience with microcomputers- PC’s and Macintoshes.
•    Excellent customer service skills are required.
•    Skill and good judgment in communicating with all levels of end-users and representatives from internal/external organizations and vendors is required.  Ability to work as a team with other physicians, patients, faculty, students, guests and staff is required. 
•    Experience with supporting 2 or more networking products (switches and wireless)
•    Unix and/or PC systems experience or certification is preferred.
•    Experience supporting a large, complex networking infrastructure is preferred.
•    Experience with multiplexers (T1, DS3), modems, sub-rated multiplexers, and similar transport equipment is preferred.
•    Extensive knowledge of Layer 2 support is preferred, to include but not limited to spanning tree, VTP domain, and 802.1Q trunking.
