Sr Research Assistant / Neuroradiology Department

The Neuroradiology Department at MD Anderson Cancer Center supports advanced imaging research focused on diseases of the brain, spine, and central nervous system. The department collaborates closely with clinicians and research teams to develop and apply innovative imaging techniques, quantitative analyses, and data-driven approaches that enhance cancer diagnosis, treatment planning, and monitoring. Research efforts contribute to high-impact publications and multidisciplinary initiatives across the institution.
The Senior Research Assistant provides advanced technical and operational support for medical research initiatives within the Neuroradiology Department. This role involves overseeing specialized laboratory activities, supporting diagnostic and imaging-based research, maintaining laboratory operations, and ensuring compliance with institutional and regulatory standards. The position works closely with investigators, faculty, and administrative partners to support high-impact research programs.
Key Responsibilities
Experimental Support & Research Assistance
- Assist with diagnostic and imaging-based research experiments, including sample preparation, data collection, and documentation.
- Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records, protocols, and experimental results.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot neuroradiology imaging and analytical equipment.
- Collaborate with investigators to optimize experimental workflows and resolve technical challenges.
- Ensure adherence to laboratory safety standards and institutional research guidelines.
- Culture and maintain tissue culture cells using biological safety cabinets and incubators.
- Contribute to scholarly output, including manuscript preparation and data analysis.
- Utilize statistical and analytical tools (e.g., SPSS or R) and support basic statistical evaluation.
- Apply working knowledge of Python and basic coding; exposure to machine learning model training is beneficial but not required.
- Experience with electronic health record platforms, including EPIC, is preferred.
Inventory & Equipment Management
- Serve as property controller for inventoried laboratory equipment.
- Manage laboratory supply inventory and ensure timely procurement of reagents and consumables.
- Maintain records of equipment calibration, service, and maintenance schedules.
- Coordinate vendor services, repairs, and institutional procurement activities.
- Track capital equipment, including documentation and budgeting support.
- Ensure equipment is properly tagged, transferred, and documented according to institutional procedures.
- Remove malfunctioning equipment from service and oversee repair and maintenance processes.
Laboratory Space & Compliance Management
- Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized laboratory environment.
- Ensure compliance with biosafety, radiation safety, and institutional policies.
- Support preparation and maintenance of standard operating procedures and safety documentation.
- Coordinate lab inspections, audits, and corrective actions as needed.
- Initiate work requests for laboratory repairs or modifications and assist with cost estimates.
- Maintain records of safety training and proper chemical and biological reagent storage.
General Laboratory Operations
- Order laboratory supplies for principal investigators and reconcile expenses with financial partners.
- Assist with organizing laboratory meetings, research presentations, and collaborative activities.
- Manage research data organization and archival processes.
- Provide documentation and operational support for grant submissions and regulatory requirements.
- Communicate effectively with investigators, faculty, and administrative teams to support smooth laboratory operations.
Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION
- Required: Bachelor's Degree Natural sciences or related field.
- Preferred: Master's Degree Basic sciences.
- Preferred: Medical Degree
WORK EXPERIENCE
- Required: 3 years Scientific or experimental research work experience. or
- Required: 1 year Required experience with preferred degree.
