Patient Care and Prevention Facilities (PC&PF) is fundamental to the daily operations of MD Anderson Cancer Center. This department ensures all of the hospital's facilities are safe, operational, and compliant with accreditation standards. It fosters an environment of growth and professional development by cultivating the skills necessary to oversee the vital maintenance operations needed throughout the institution. PC&PF also plays a longitudinal role for the institution in overseeing the construction of new facilities and the modernization of existing buildings through new software and monitoring initiatives. All of this makes PC&PF a vital and integral department in delivering world class cancer care to patients.

 

The ideal candidate is an experienced electrical and building systems technician with approximately eight years of hands-on experience in electrical work, HVAC, building automation systems, and pneumatic controls, and holds a Journeyman Electrician License. Driving an institutional vehicle across the MD Anderson portfolio. Technicians will manage scheduled daily work, monitor BAS and Clockworks for urgent issues, and collaborate with the BOT team to resolve BAS alarms, directly contributing to safe and reliable building operations for patients and staff. Nice-to-have qualifications include a Master Electrician License and experience with BAS platforms such as Desigo, Apogee, Niagara, or Trane Tracer.

The salary range for this position is $82,500 - $103,000 - $123,500

Work Schedule : Thursday-Friday 9:00AM-7:30PM  & Saturday-Sunday 7:00AM-5:30PM

Location: Reports to West Houston with variable work assignments across multiple campuses.

The primary purpose of the Sr. Instrumentation Technician is to repair and maintain electronic and control equipment, respond to customer calls, provide support in emergencies, and provide critical thinking and leadership.

Respond customer calls  Respond client requests and emergency calls

Maintain, Repair and Troubleshoot  Performs functions on live circuits and in operating controls enclosures. May install, troubleshoot and repair 120, 208, 240 and 480 volt controls and equipment per NEC guidelines.

1.         Skilled in practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment of electronic technician trade:
a.         Skilled in the used of the following tools/calibrating instruments: thermocouple calibrator, resistance temperature, detector calibrator, voltage and current generator, multi-meters, and decade resistance box.
b.         Maintain and repair typical building electronic, electrical, mechanical and pneumatic systems.
c.         Install, calibrate, and check assigned systems using manual dexterity, hand tools, and visual ability.
d.         Examine and test mechanisms and circuitry for defects.
e.         Run conduit, pull wire, and install circuits for electrically powered units.
2          Maintain/repair/calibrate HVAC systems to include air handling units, fan coil units, terminal boxes, dampers, thermostats sensors, control valves, and associated HVAC equipment.

3.         Troubleshoot equipment in or out of control systems, and replace or repair defective components:
a.         Requisition material.
b.         Ability to program microprocessors for initial commissioning and tune operating controls.
c.         Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the job.

4. Ability to Apply Craft Skills Knowledge - Reads, draws and interprets electrical, pneumatic, mechanical and heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) schematics, one line diagrams and control sequence of operations. Coordinates and prioritizes the workflow of technicians.  Investigates outages. Participates in the development of the "Owners Design Guidelines", project design phases and review processes. Inspects contracted instrumentation work to ensure repairs and installations are compliant. Functions as a point of contact for vendors. Prepares and submits reports.  Participates in process improvement initiatives. May precept staff.

Document and communication   Provide complete information to accurately document corrective action, labor hour, and materials used on work orders. Timely communication to supervisor of any other issues encountered during the performance of work.

EDUCATION

  • Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Preferred: Associate's Degree Electronics or related field.

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Required: Eight years Electronic, building automated systems and pneumatic controls experience to include two years of electrical experience. or
  • Required: Six years Electronic, building automated systems and pneumatic controls experience to include one year of electrical experience with Journeyman Electrician's license.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Preferred: JRNY-E - Journeyman Electrician Upon Hire
