This is a full-time benefits eligible position located within the Facilities Management, Research and Administration Facilities Department in Bastrop, Texas.

SUMMARY
The primary purpose of the Sr. HVAC Mechanic position is to act as a subject matter expert and maintain and coordinate heating, ventilating, air-conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R) work, including sheet metal ductwork and control instrumentation.  Scope impacts the HVAC/R systems through maintenance and service.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Installs, maintains and repairs HVAC systems.  Makes initial settings and final adjustments of commercial HVAC systems and modifies existing installations to obtain required results.  Monitors and troubleshoots HVAC issues through BAS systems and/or other diagnostic tools.  Follows schedule of preventive maintenance and makes recommendations regarding major overhaul of systems. May order materials and maintain inventory. Coordinates and prioritizes the workflow of technicians and mechanics.  Investigates outages. Participates in the development of the "Owners Design Guidelines", project design phases and review processes. Inspects contracted HVAC work to ensure repairs and installations are compliant. Functions as a point of contact for vendors. Prepares and submits reports.  Participates in process improvement initiatives. May precept staff.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Maintenance and operations  
Troubleshoot equipment failures and replace or repair defective components. Service and replace chiller compressors. Assist with the repair/calibration of HVAC systems to include air handling units, fan coil units, terminal boxes, dampers, thermostats, sensors, control valves, and associated HVAC equipment. Identify and order parts necessary to repair equipment. Mentor Maintenance Technicians assigned to assist. 

Preventative maintenance  
Perform preventative maintenance on all roof top exhaust fans, air handling units, air cooled chillers, heaters, gas fires furnaces and associated HVAC systems and controls.

Inventory management   
Maintain an adequate supply of filters, chemicals and critical spare parts to support 24/7 operations of the systems. Submit requisitions to replenish supplies.

Project Review   
Review project drawings, project submittals and specifications scheduled to be performed by outside, private contractors. Inspect all work performed by outside contractors for projects and maintenance.

REQUIREMENTS
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Education: Associates or Bachelors degree in air conditioning/refrigeration engineering or technology or mechanical engineering.
Certification: Universal Certification by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Preferred Certification: Valid Class A, B or C Texas driver’s license and eligible to drive State and institutional vehicles.  Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (ACR) Contractor's license issued by the State of Texas.
Experience: Eight years experience in a mechanical field to include commercial installation, repair and maintenance of HVAC, refrigeration, control systems or other mechanical environments. Seven years of experience required with preferred Associates degree, as referenced by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations (TDLR). Six years of experience required with preferred Bachelors degree, as referenced by the TDLR.
Preferred Experience: Two years of supervisory/team lead experience and/or one year of experience with MD Anderson building systems specifications and Owner Design Guidelines.
Onsite Presence: Is Required.
