This role is dedicated to our multi-billion-dollar Legacy Campus program, which includes multiple ground-up new construction and renovation projects within the Texas Medical Center, which is scheduled to continue through 2032. 

Facilities Planning, Design and Construction (FPDC) manages funds and projects designated by The University of Texas System for improvements to MD Anderson facilities. The professionals working in FPDC provide their clients with architectural and engineering services, space standards and planning, and interior specifications for their projects. FPDC also handles the creation of long-term development plans for the institution and for specific divisions within MD Anderson. This includes strategic and long-term capital plans, project programming and development, facility assessment and capital improvement, code and development standards and master planning.

FPDC is responsible for executing over 400 active projects ranging from $1,000 to multi-billion-dollar builds, implementing a $10 billion capital expansion program spanning clinical, research, hospitality, and infrastructure facilities. FPDC has over 200 professionals including project managers, planners, architects, designers, and operations experts, working as a team to complete all of these projects.

The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of experience leading complex healthcare construction projects, including success in Senior Project Manager and Responsible‑in‑Charge roles. This leader will bring deep expertise in project financials, budgeting, scheduling, scope, quality, and risk management, along with the ability to effectively engage executive leadership and multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects on time and within budget.

Position Information
Salary Range: $123,000 - $154,000 - $185,000
Hourly Breakdown (40-hour work week): Normal business hours. 
Typical Work Schedule: Hybrid role, working remote Monday and Friday, onsite Tuesday - Thursday, subject to change.

SUMMARY

The primary purpose of the Senior Facilities Project Manager position is to represent Facilities Planning, Design and Construction while providing project management expertise in management of one or more assigned projects.  Under minimal direction, independently manages complex major capital facility projects.  Possess an extensive knowledge of construction processes, product application and building/infrastructure component assembly. Demonstrate broad project management skills in the management of integration/coordination of project elements, delegation of activities in the management of stakeholders, scope management, time management, cost management, quality assurance, managing changes priorities and communication management in the generation, collection, dissemination, storage and ultimate disposition of project information. Assures compliance with, and adheres to, current institutional and industry standards.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Project Management Manage the key projects aspects of scope, budget, schedule, and project contract compliance.  Ensure that projects are successfully completed on schedule, within the approval budget and in accordance with applicable quality standards.

Guide and manage the Project Team ( customers, General Contractor/Construction Manager; Consultants; Facilities, Planning, Design, & Construction internal resources and Facilities Management Division groups) to yield productive actions through conflict management and use of good written and verbal communication to ensure a successful project completion.

Compliance/Regulations Manage contractual compliance and relationships for the assigned projects.  Defines & implements contractual and financial strategies.  Coordinate approval procedures with the BOR, THECB, FSC and associated State Agencies.  Work collaboratively with Supply Chain Services in the preparation of necessary documentation for contract award.  Support the ROCIP on the selected projects.

Documentation/Recordkeeping Develops and manages project documentation, record keeping, financial and activity status reports that are accurate, up-to-date, clear and complete in support of the decision making, issue solving and informing processes of a project.  Ensure that the project documentation records are organized and stored properly.

Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

  • Required: Bachelor's Degree Construction Management, Construction Science or other construction related Architectural Engineering field or related discipline.

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Required: Five years Project management/construction experience.
  • May substitute Bachelor's degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis.
  • Preferred: 10 years senior project management/construction management experience. Design and construction experience with major academic healthcare and/or research facilities.
