SUMMARY
The primary purpose of the Senior Computational Scientist position is to design and develop clinical informatics application software and data management systems at the ECOG-ACRIN Central Biorepository and Pathology Facility (EA CBPF). This position is responsible for the architecture, design, development, detailed analysis, integration and testing of software system and sub-components tailored to meet specific objectives at the CBPF.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Software Architecturing and Development  Architect, design and develop informatics applications that enhance the efficiency and scalability of the operations of stakeholders of interest and that help broaden the impact of our services. Develop tools that retrieve, analyze, present and manage information from existing databases and systems (e.g. Legacy EA Protocols (LEAP), EA Leukemia Bank data, Excel, etc); integrate with other internal or external systems (e.g. NCTN Navigator, EA Sample Tracking System, etc.); develop applications abstract, analyze and present/visualize complex data. Write, execute and test new code; implement and debug subsystems and components.

Research and Development  Conduct research and interact with other stakeholders at the CBPF and beyond to understand the domain knowledge, business background and identify business needs that can benefit from informatics solutions. Routinely explore emergent technologies and assess their suitability for the field of interest. Develop prototype applications and conduct pilot studies as needed. Interact with the technical leader and other IT professionals to understand system architectures, subsystem and component specifications and recommend changes to facilitate efficient and effective development.

Documentation and Execution   Design and document requirements, subsystems and system components consisting of several modules working together to execute an encapsulated function of the larger system.

Mentoring/Training and Teamwork   Mentor and train junior members in the team as needed. Perform tasks efficiently and work together with team to ensure project success.
