Senior Clinical Investigation Technician - Leukemia

KEY FUNCTIONS
Laboratory Operation
· Participate in all preparation, reporting, and Sponsor Site visitations meeting to get to know protocol details, assessment time points, personnel involved, contact information, inventory, supplies, laboratory manual, and shipping requirements.
· Use digital and computer resources to organize, access, store, exchange, and process all patients and protocols requirements, like group calendar, patients scheduling system, Clinic Station, PDML, PDOL, Microsoft Office with emphasis on Access and Excel.
· Prepare assigned protocol digital draw sheet files, hard copies, protocol binders, and archive in compliance with protocol assessments requirements.
· Manage inventory, supplies, shipping containers, air bill, labels, and contact information.
· Coordinate the collection of specimens requested; delivery to the proper testing laboratory or process following sponsor laboratory manual, use appropriate labels, and obtains results after each test completion.
· Accurately collects, records, and archives all data and protocols events to log and track all protocols queries on professional and neat manner.
· Ship samples according to lab manual and protocol requirements using appropriate shipping supplies, air bills, requisition forms, and container inventory list. Then Fax, E-mail, and call receiver with respective tracking number and paperwork.
· Assist as needed in the scheduling of personnel coverage and the delegation of work assignments.
· Supervise, participate and mentor employees in all clinical trial details and biological assays process, like obtaining plasma or serum, preparing Bone Marrow slides, EKGs, Buccal swaps, Urine test, PKs, PDs, etc); assessing labels, using appropriate containers, storing specimens and shipping at specified temperatures.
· Assist with training Phlebotomists to ensure proper sample collection, processing, ECG assessments, and shipping.
Tracking Reports
· Maintain an accurate daily log of all tests collected and serve as an information source regarding status of tests and retrieval of data requested both by computer through keyboard and handwritten accounts.
· Provide reports when requested.
· Comply with lab policies, technical procedures, safety rules, and infection control policies.
Others
· May be required to work extended hours or other variations of the normal work shift. Minimum unexpected time off is granted due to the complexity and high level of demand of this type of job.
· Must communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, patients, laboratory personnel and the general public in a polite and professional manner. Must maintain composure in a stressful patient care environment. Demonstrates good customer service behavior and attitude at all times.
· Assist other department employees with clinical studies and/or various work assignments when help is requested or as schedule permits.
· Maintain proper attire and appearance for the lab, themselves, and the draw room. Projecting the proper image for the Department and the Institution.
· Perform general duties as directed by supervisor.
· Walk from one area of hospital to another to deliver and pick up information, mail and laboratory samples weighing up to 20 pounds.
EDUCATION
Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE
Required: Five years of phlebotomy experience. Additional education may substitute for up to two years of the required experience on a one to one basis.
Preferred: Clinical Investigation Technician experience at MD Anderson Cancer Center.
