SUMMARY

Provide student laboratory and didactic training and mentoring in the Cytotechnology (CYT) SHP program. 

The School of Health Professions is seeking an experienced and motivated Education Coordinator to support the Cytotechnology (CT) Program. The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) and have 3–5 years of relevant experience within the past five years in cytopathology education, clinical practice, or molecular diagnostics.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Key Functions 

Participate in programmatic and regional accreditation activities.

Participate in the continuous evaluation of the Cytology Program.

Ensure course and program learning outcomes are delivered as defined by the syllabus.

Develop and maintain the lab experience curricula to coincide with national guidelines and best practices.

Supervise, develop and instruct the practical course work within the School of Health Professions with an emphasis on the morphologic evaluation of gynecologic, non-gynecologic and fine needle aspirate (FNA) preparations, and the correlation of cytologic findings with concurrent companion test results.

Participate in the development and delivery of summer cytology workshop programs and revenue-generating initiatives in SHP.

Administrative Duties as Education Coordinator may include the following: 

Participate in student recruitment, selection and the admission process.  

Responsible for coordination and operation of educational activities in the Program’s Diagnostic Cytology Laboratory and Simulated Cytoprep courses.

Serve as a resource and mentor for students and staff in the clinical area as assigned by the Program Director.

Assist the Program Director with coordinating the assignment of students to clinical sites. 

Assist the Program Director with the supervision and coordination of clinical education. 

Assist the Program Director with ensuring the documentation of student clinical performance and their progression throughout their academic journey.

Assist the Program Director with ensuring that personnel who supervise or instruct students at clinical sites are properly orientated to the program’s requirements. 

Assist in the preparation and maintenance of program accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). 

Assist in the preparation and maintenance of program accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

Assist in the growth and operation of the program by participating in the creation of programmatic policies and procedures.

Communicate effectively with staff, peers, director, and external and internal customers.  Serve as an extension of the Program Director and Associate Program Director.

Other duties may be assigned. 

EDUCATION

Required: Bachelor’s degree 

Preferred:  Master’s degree or Doctorate (Academic) 

EXPERIENCE

Required:  Three years of relevant experience. May substitute additional experience for required education on a one to one basis. 

Preferred: Three to five years of relevant experience within the past five years in education, clinical practice, or molecular research. Demonstrated competence in current diagnostic cytopathology practices, educational theory/practice.

Required:  None

Preferred:  CT (ASCP) and MB (ASCP)
