The primary purpose of the Research Scientist is to apply technical expertise and experience to plan, coordinate, design, supervise and carry out research projects within the department of Infectious Diseases
 

This is a part-time 20 hours a week position.

The ideal candidate for the Research Scientist role in Infectious Diseases is an experienced researcher with strong expertise in microbiology, infectious diseases, and biostatistical analysis—especially within immunocompromised or oncology patient populations. They are adept at independently designing and executing research studies and clinical trials, developing analysis databases, preparing statistical analysis plans, and writing scientific sections of study protocols. They possess strong analytical skills and can compile, interpret, and present complex datasets clearly and accurately.


This candidate excels in scientific communication, maintaining meticulous research records, and producing high quality reports, manuscripts, and presentations for PIs and scientific audiences. They are innovative problem solvers who set research goals, adapt methodologies, and develop or refine techniques and experimental tools as needed. Highly organized and collaborative, they manage all stages of research projects—including post award activities—with professionalism, independence, and a commitment to advancing research in infectious diseases affecting cancer patients.

Key Functions

1.    Plans, organizes, coordinates, directs, and participates in scientific research projects, including clinical trials.

2.    Compile, analyze, and report statistical data for various projects relating to infectious diseases in cancer patients, and prepare data for publication and distribution.

3.    Work with the Principal Investigator(s) and clinical personnel throughout the department to develop and maintain an analysis database.

4.    Provide statistical support for the study design of clinical trials, prepare statistical analysis plans, and write the statistical methods section of the study protocols.

5.    Determines specific goals or objectives to be obtained, evaluates research data, and develops and revises techniques or approaches to work problems.

6.    Functions in a separate and independent manner in the design and initiation of research projects. Designs, develops, or adapts equipment used in experiments or research to obtain desired results.

7.    Leads, conducts, and maintains accurate and up-to-date records of the work done. Performs timely data analysis in various fields of microbiology and infectious diseases with proper interpretation of data. Must be able to analyze data, prepare reports, and present to a group of scientists or PI. Assists with the preparation of grant applications, scientific manuscripts, and presentations.

8.    Presents findings of research projects to the principal investigator (PI) on a regular basis, and prepares scientific documents/manuscripts for publications and presentations based on the PI request he/she reports to.

9.    Coordinates execution of awards and renewals and post-award management and reporting

10.    Compiles, writes, and submits reports to PIs.

11.    Other duties as assigned

 

EDUCATION

  • Required: Master's Degree Natural sciences or related field.
  • Preferred: PhD Natural sciences. or
  • : Medical Degree

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Required: 4 years Experimental or scientific work. or
  • Required: 2 years Experimental or scientific work with medical degree. or
  • Required: No experience required with PhD.
