The Health Disparities Research Department aims to reduce and ultimately eliminate disparities in cancer incidence, morbidity and mortality and cancer-related behavior through research and education addressing the determinants of disparities as well as interventions and policies designed to eliminate disparities.

The primary purpose of the Research Scientist position is to apply technical expertise and experience to plan, coordinate, design, carry out and evaluate specific research projects conducted Health Disparities Research, including behavioral intervention studies that aim to improve the quality of life among Chinese American cancer survivors. Ensures successful project planning, implementation, and closure. Provides input to cancer research efforts throughout the institution. Responsible for specific activities related to cancer prevention and control and health accessty projects and for completion of other tasks and activities as assigned by principal investigator. 

The ideal candidate will have a PhD in a natural or social science or a related field, with experience in scientific or experimental research, along with demonstrated experience in grant writing and study implementation. Strong written communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within team-based and multidisciplinary environments are highly valued.

Minimum $32.93 – Midpoint $41.11 – Maximum $49.28
The typical work schedule is hybrid schedule with at least one on-site day per week and additional on-site time based on business needs

Responsibilities

Research Project Management
• Plan, organize, coordinate, and participate in scientific research projects for the Center for Energy Balance in Cancer Prevention and Survivorship
• Determine research goals and objectives and evaluate outcomes against expectations
• Develop and revise research techniques or approaches to address complex problems
• Assist investigators in developing and refining research ideas related to energy balance, cancer survivorship, cancer prevention, and health disparities
• Identify and pursue opportunities for collaboration and scientific partnerships internally and externally
• Ensure successful project planning, implementation, and closure
• Contribute to broader institutional cancer research initiatives
• Support cancer prevention, control, and health-related projects as assigned by the principal investigator

Data Analyses and Reporting
• Independently design and initiate scientific research projects
• Perform or oversee data management and analysis procedures
• Analyze existing datasets to generate insights and findings
• Design and optimize databases using user-centered design principles
• Prepare and present research findings to professional groups
• Develop scientific documents and manuscripts for publication
• Collaborate with external partners to disseminate research findings within communities
• Track progress and manage submission of project reports and deliverables

Grant Management
• Contribute to grant applications related to energy balance research
• Prepare administrative sections of grant proposals for investigators
• Support scientific writing, research design, and analysis for grant submissions

Other Duties
• Perform additional tasks and activities as assigned by the principal investigator

EDUCATION
• Required: a Master's Degree Natural sciences or related field
• Preferred: a PhD Natural sciences or a Medical Degree

WORK EXPERIENCE
• Required: Four years Experimental or scientific work or two years Experimental or scientific work with medical degree or No experience required with PhD
• Preferred: Prior experience with grant writing, implementing studies is a plus.
