Research Investigator - Cell Therapy Institute

The Research Investigator assists the principal investigator with scientific research projects. Works independently in designing and initiating research experiments. Designs, develops, or adapts equipment used in experiments to achieve desired results. Determines specific project goals, evaluates research data, and refines techniques or approaches to research challenges. Plans training and research activities for assigned laboratory personnel, supervises the use of laboratory equipment, implements safety procedures, and compiles and submits project results to leadership.

JOB-SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Technical Laboratory Duties
- Maintain excellent aseptic technique and perform advanced mammalian tissue culture, including expansion, maintenance of primary cells and established cell lines.
- Perform cell engineering techniques, including viral vector production, viral transduction, and nucleic acid transfection, and assist with optimization of gene delivery protocols.
- Conduct functional immunological assays, including ELISA, flow cytometry, and CyTOF staining, and assist in developing and optimizing staining panels and experimental protocols.
- Perform molecular biology techniques involving DNA, RNA, and protein analyses to support research projects.
- Collect, analyze, and organize experimental data while maintaining accurate and detailed laboratory records, including cryogenic sample inventories.
- Independently process and handle clinical specimens, including human blood, tumor tissue, and ascites, and maintain proper cryopreservation and biobanking procedures for future research.
- Assist with the implementation and optimization of new laboratory techniques and technologies, and support lab members in adopting new experimental workflows.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Monitor laboratory supplies to ensure adequate inventory and high‑quality reagents to support ongoing research projects.
- Maintain organized frozen cell inventories, ensuring proper cryopreservation, labeling, storage conditions, and accurate database documentation.
- Train RAI and RAII personnel on research activities and equipment use.
Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION
Required: Bachelor's Degree Natural sciences or related field.
Preferred: Master's Degree natural sciences or related field.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required: Five years Scientific or experimental research work or three years required experience with preferred degree.
