The Research Assistant I position supports the Cancer Biology Department at MD Anderson, a group with a long history of leadership in basic and translational cancer biology research. The department is dedicated to advancing the understanding of tumor biology and training students, postdoctoral fellows, and clinical fellows to improve outcomes for individuals with malignancies. MD Anderson Cancer Center is a leading institution focused on cancer care, research, education, and prevention.

The Research Assistant I plays a critical role in experiments aimed at improving the functional understanding of processes involved in colon and pancreatic carcinogenesis. The Research Assistant I will work with genetically engineered mouse model samples, isolate 2D and 3D/organoid cell lines, and perform functional in vitro and in vivo assays. The Research Assistant I will also contribute to maintaining high-quality laboratory operations, protocols, and equipment.

Minimum $18.99 – Midpoint $23.80 – Maximum $28.61

Responsibilities
Laboratory Technical Function

Maintain and culture cancer cell lines and organoids using sterile technique.
Extract protein lysates, DNA, and RNA from cultured cells.
Perform molecular and biochemical assays including immunohistochemistry, western blot, flow cytometry, and PCR.
Validate, optimize, and troubleshoot PCR and western blot protocols.
Execute CRISPR knockout procedures.
Conduct subcutaneous mouse tumor volume measurements.
Perform MRI volume calculations of internal tumors.
Perform mouse necropsy and tumor dissections.

Mouse Colony Management

Assume shared responsibility for performing mouse genotyping.

Laboratory Maintenance

Follow procedures and protocols to ensure quality and integrity of laboratory work.
Monitor supplies and stock solutions to maintain adequate inventory.
Maintain working knowledge of basic laboratory equipment to ensure proper operation.

Other Duties

Perform other duties as assigned.
