Phlebotomist - Northwest Diagnostic Imaging Center

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Phlebotomist at our Northwest Houston Diagnostic Imaging Center to join our Northwest Houston Diagnostic Imaging Center. In this role, you will be responsible for performing high‑quality blood collection procedures, supporting patient care, and contributing to a collaborative clinical environment. This position requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering excellent patient experiences.
Shift / Hours: Monday - Friday / 0615 - 1700
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care & Phlebotomy Procedures
- Perform venipuncture and blood collection using proper technique and safety protocols.
- Collect specimens from central venous catheters and conduct arterial punctures.
- Obtain blood cultures, perform bleeding times, and conduct POC glucose testing.
- Follow isolation room protocols and age‑specific competency standards.
- Maintain sterile/aseptic technique and adhere to all infection control guidelines.
- Travel to regional care facilities as needed (Bellaire, West Houston, CABI).
- Support patient care needs by flexing schedules, covering shifts, and assisting during emergencies.
Technical Accuracy & Documentation
- Identify patients accurately using approved identifiers and follow all HIPAA requirements.
- Collect, label, document, and transport specimens in a timely, error‑free manner.
- Perform registration, accessioning, quality control, and documentation according to protocol.
- Enter accurate data into clinical systems including Cerner, EPIC, modality imaging systems, and billing workflows.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of coding, ICD‑10, billing, and compliance standards.
- Assist with equipment operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance logs.
Safety, Quality, & Communication
- Promote a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
- Use PPE appropriately and follow all regulatory and institutional safety requirements.
- Report incidents, variances, or patient concerns within 24 hours.
- Participate in downtime procedures, quality improvement projects, and staff meetings.
- Support patient flow and minimize delays by working collaboratively with the care team.
- Contribute to the education and onboarding of new hires, students, and trainees.
Qualifications
- Previous phlebotomy experience in a clinical or hospital setting preferred
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Commitment to accuracy, safety, and patient-centered care

EDUCATION
- Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Preferred: Associate's Degree Medical Laboratory Technician Program. or
- : Completion of a specialized phlebotomy training program.
WORK EXPERIENCE
- Required: Completion of a MD Anderson phlebotomy internship. or
- Required: Six months of phlebotomy experience in a clinical laboratory. or
- Required: With preferred education, only three months of phlebotomy experience in a clinical laboratory required.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Preferred: CPT - Phlebotomy Technician Certification American Society of Clinical Pathologist Board of Registry (BOR) or American Certification Agency (ACA). Upon Hire
- Preferred: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Upon Hire
