Pharmacy Manager - Retail - Specialty - Dayshift

SUMMARY

Reporting to the Associate Director, Pharmacy Operations position is to lead operational, development, quality, and regulatory compliance components for the retail and specialty pharmacy services. To ensure safe and rational drug therapy through efficient distribution systems and integrated direct patient care activities. Directs the distributive and patient care activities performed by pharmacists and technicians for pharmacy dispensing areas servicing Outpatient areas.

Key Functions

Operations: 45%

1.     Implementing and maintaining best practices as defined through legal and national standards Establishes cohesive and consistent pharmacy operations and standards across outpatient retail and specialty pharmacy service locations. Provides clear direction and communication to department leaders.

2.     Participates in development and administration of policies and operating procedures.

3.     Monitors area workflow according to defined metrics to assure all duties are performed in an efficient manner, or adjusts accordingly. Manages physical resources including inventory control, automation/technology, and property maintenance. 

4.     Directing work flow and monitoring productivity, and meeting patient care needs.

5.     Leads human resource functions including staffing, performance management, professional development, succession planning, and position requests.

Quality and Regulatory: 30%

1.     Administers and oversees a quality assurance and improvement program, with emphasis in pharmacy compliance to Board of Pharmacy, accreditation requirements and all applicable regulatory agency guidelines and requirements for each state of licensure.

2.     Establishes an ongoing focus on implementing best practices for quality and performance improvement, continuous monitoring, oversight, and performance improvement.

3.     Ensures that internal processes comply with institutional guidelines and regulatory agencies to maintain the integrity of the department and institution. 

 

Strategy: 25%

1.     Assists the Associate director with development, alignment, and execution of short- and long-range strategic plans and initiatives across retail and specialty pharmacy services.

2.     Participate with the Executive leaders and managers in programs and initiatives, ensuring pharmacy service support of institutional directives, strategy, and goals.

3.     Establishes and maintains relationships, through collaboratively working with inter- and intradepartmental team members,timely resolution of conflicts and service level complaint, timely address conflicts between staff within the department; works toward win - win solutions, promoting and maintaining a professional work environment.

REQUIREMENTS

Required:           B.S.Pharm or Pharm.D.,

Preferred:          ASHP accredited residency or fellowship, and MS degree in pharmacy or MBA healthcare management or administration

Experience:

Required: Five years of pharmacist experience to include three years in a supervisory/managerial role.  With preferred degree (which must be obtained within 180 days), completion of a PGY1 or PGY2 pharmacy administrative residency program can substitute for required experience.Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate and/or LEADing Self Discover programs may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience. Completion of both programs can be substituted for a maximum of two years of supervisory or management experience.

Preferred: 5 years of management experience in a large community or teaching hospital with OP retail and specialty pharmacy services

Experience with Epic Electronic Health Record.

Onsite Presence: Is Required

This position may be responsible for maintaining the security and integrity of critical infrastructure, as defined in Section 113.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code and therefore may require routine reviews and screening. The ability to satisfy and maintain all requirements necessary to ensure the continued security and integrity of such infrastructure is a condition of hire and continued employment.
