Patient Care Technician in Post Anesthesia Care Unit

The Patient Care Technician in Post Anesthesia Care Unit supports Perioperative Services at MD Anderson Cancer Center, contributing to patient care in a high-acuity surgical recovery environment. Perioperative Services is a multidisciplinary department partnered with Anesthesiology and Critical Care, the Nursing Division, and the Surgery Division, supporting more than 15,000 surgical cases annually across more than 30 operating rooms in the Main Building and Mays Clinic. The Patient Care Technician in Post Anesthesia Care Unit plays a key role in maintaining a safe, efficient, and patient-centered post-anesthesia environment.

The Patient Care Technician in Post Anesthesia Care Unit contributes directly to this mission by supporting high-quality perioperative outcomes and patient recovery.

The ideal candidate is an individual with experience as a Medical Assistant or Nursing Assistant, with direct patient contact experience and demonstrated ability to obtain vital signs, blood glucose readings, and patient weights. Experience in a fast-paced clinical environment and comfort working as part of a multidisciplinary care team are strongly preferred.

Salary Range (40-hour work week): Minimum $18.27 – Midpoint $22.84 – Maximum $27.40 per hour

Work Schedule:

  • Monday – Friday (8 hours/day)
  • 2:45 PM – 11:15 PM shift
  • Rotating Saturday schedule required

Responsibilities
• Act as a member of a multidisciplinary team to identify and address patient care needs.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living, including mobility and positioning.
• Support patient admit and discharge processes.
• Obtain and document vital signs, blood glucose levels, and patient weights.
• Update and retrieve patient information as required.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly patient care environment.

EDUCATION

  • Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Preferred: At least one year of Patient Care Technician or Nursing Assistant experience

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Preferred: CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant Upon Hire
