Patient Care and Prevention Facilities (PC&PF) is fundamental to the daily operations of MD Anderson Cancer Center. This department ensures all of the hospital's facilities are safe, operational, and compliant with accreditation standards. It fosters an environment of growth and professional development by cultivating the skills necessary to oversee the vital maintenance operations needed throughout the institution. PC&PF also plays a longitudinal role for the institution in overseeing the construction of new facilities and the modernization of existing buildings through new software and monitoring initiatives. All of this makes PC&PF a vital and integral department in delivering world class cancer care to patients.

The ideal candidate has 5–7 years of experience leading maintenance operations in a healthcare facilities environment, with past roles such as Supervisor or Manager. They bring strong knowledge of hospital maintenance, including MEP systems, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and BAS. They excel at team leadership, managing projects with minimal disruptions, and creating effective preventative maintenance programs.

Must‑haves include the ability to serve as the go‑to emergency contact, lead by example, and maintain a safe, reliable care environment. Preferred qualifications include supervising 5–10 staff, familiarity with Joint Commission standards, USP 797/800, MAXIMO, and BAS platforms like Apogee or Desigo.

The work schedule is Monday-Friday, 11pm-7:30am

The salary range is $92,500 - $115,500 - $138,500

The primary purpose of the Operations and Maintenance Supervisor position is to provide experienced administrative and technical support for the maintenance and operations of all buildings, structures, systems, components, and utilities, and assist the department manager with the coordination and supervision of designated shops and all associated activities.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Equipment Maintenance

  • Manages Preventive Maintenance (PM) and Workload for Craft and Maintenance Technicians
  • Manages effective PM processes across all infrastructure and utility systems to ensure safe, reliable service.
  • Improves PM process and frequencies to improve productivity.
  • Manages all infrastructure and utility-related work orders and tickets
  • Manages PM and work order closures in Maximo as needed.
  • Support all initiatives associated with JC readiness.
  • Manage contract renewals and initiate new contracts as needed to maintain facility compliance with applicable codes.
  • Track contract costs and deliverables.
  • Manages repairs as requested, identified, or forecasted.
  • Annually maintains operating budget within the acceptable +/- 2% variance.
  • Control spending against the budget.
  • Supervise activities for compliance with Electrical systems
  • Equipment maintenance may require on-call availability to support equipment and technicians outside normal working times. This requirement does not imply any other limits during non-working hours. This time is not considered on-call and will not be compensated.

     

     

    Workforce Management and Development

  • Hires staff, recommends promotions, salary adjustments, and handles other personnel matters as required.
  • Personnel Management and Budget Support to Management
  • Provide management on hiring, evaluations, and promotions.
  • Ensure employees are trained and goal-setting.
  • Effectively track workload.
  • Effectively schedule work for the front-line staff and manage the shift coverage.
  • Communicate regularly with customers to deliver high-quality customer service.
  • Maintains inter-departmental relationships to maximize responsiveness to customer needs and demands.
  • Manage overtime costs to stay within guidelines.

     

     

    Departmental Representation

  • Applies independent judgment and analysis to gather facts and determine the appropriate solutions based on past experience and departmental practices for internal and external divisional programs.
  • Coordinates, leads, and participates in special projects.
  • Participates in task force and committee meetings.
  • Adheres to and implements departmental policies involving institutional and divisional internal controls.
  • Coordinates and compiles educational materials for the department.

EDUCATION

  • Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Preferred: Associate's Degree Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or related field.

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Required: Five years In one or more craft areas including three years lead/supervisory experience.
  • Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate and/or LEADing Self Discover programs may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience. Completion of both programs can be substituted for a maximum of two years of supervisory or management experience.
  • Preferred: Ability to work within the Microsoft Windows environment and experience working within a CMMS environment.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Preferred: TDL - Texas Drivers License Valid Class A, B or C Texas driver's license and eligible to drive State and institutional vehicles. Upon Hire
  • Preferred: Journeyman's license in one craft. Upon Hire

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
