Medical Laboratory Scientist - Hematology - Days
The CORE Hematology Laboratory plays a vital role in supporting MD Anderson’s mission by providing high-quality, timely hematologic testing that directly informs patient diagnosis, treatment decisions, and ongoing care. The laboratory serves as a central testing hub, partnering closely with clinical teams to deliver accurate and reliable results that support complex oncology care across the institution.
As a Medical Laboratory Scientist in CORE Hematology, you will perform a full range of laboratory testing while ensuring strict adherence to established policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and safety standards. This role is responsible for proper specimen data acquisition, accurate analysis and evaluation of patient results, and troubleshooting and maintenance of laboratory instrumentation. You will maintain competency in laboratory computer systems, manage inventory controls to ensure effective use of reagents and supplies, and ensure patient information and results are stored for timely access and continuity of care.
This position also contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of laboratory operations by organizing and prioritizing work to meet productivity demands, working independently, and supporting peers and supervisors as needed. In addition, the Medical Laboratory Scientist actively participates in training and mentoring students, employees, and fellows; supports process improvement initiatives; and assists with the validation and implementation of new methodologies, tests, and laboratory systems in collaboration with laboratory leadership and technical support teams.

**There are 3 diffferent shifts available with hours starting at 5am. 6:30am and 7am. Please discuss your preferred starting time in the interview. The ideal candidate will have a bachelors degree in a science related field or have completed a NAACLS MLS program**

- Stores patient information and results to allow easy future access as required.

- Adjusts, prioritizes, and organizes work to achieve maximum productivity to meet the workload demands of the section.
- Assists peers and supervisors with tasks after completion of assigned work.

Assists in the development of laboratory personnel and tests, to enhance laboratory functions.
- Actively participates in training students, employees and fellows.
- Participates in process improvement projects.
- Validates and evaluates new methodologies and tests with the help of Laboratory Supervisor and technical support.
- Validates database for new software or new tests implemented in the laboratory.
- Coaches and mentors’ students and employees.

Required:
• Associate's Degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology OR
• Bachelor’s Degree in a related science field or Molecular Genetic Technology OR
• Successful completion of a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) accredited Clinical Laboratory Science/Molecular Genetic Technology accredited program
Required Experience:
• 2 years of clinical laboratory experience with an Associate's Degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology
• 1 year of clinical laboratory experience with a Bachelor’s Degree in a related science field
• No experience required with completion of a NAACLS-accredited Clinical Laboratory Science/Molecular Genetic Technology accredited program
Preferred:
• ASCP – American Society of Clinical Pathologist Technologist/Scientist/Specialist certification OR
• CHS – Certified Histocompatibility Specialist, American College of Histocompatibility & Immunogenetics (ACHI) OR
• CHT – Certified Histocompatibility Technologist, American College of Histocompatibility & Immunogenetics (ACHI) OR
• MDT – Molecular Diagnostics Tech, American Medical
