Medical Assistant - Colorectal Center
Seeking an experienced Medical Assistant to join MD Anderson’s Colorectal Center, home to many of the world’s leading physicians specializing in cancers of the lower digestive tract. These medical oncologists, radiation oncologists and surgeons often focus on specific types and subtypes of colon cancer, rectal cancer and anal cancer. This gives them focused expertise in caring for patients. They bring this expertise to teams of physicians who work together to design treatment plans for each patient’s unique needs.
The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of experience. CMA or RMA certification is preferred but not required. Ideal candidates are driven, organized, strong communicators, and motivated to learn, with a preference for those who have clinic experience. The schedule is Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm.

KEY FUNCTIONS
• Assists with patient examinations, treatments and procedures.
• Prepares / stocks rooms and escorts patients to rooms.
• Obtains vital signs and prepares patients for physician's care.
• Documents in the medical record patient care entries and completed lab work.
• Reviews and sorts incoming lab results and forwards reports for review.
• Collects laboratory specimens and performs waived laboratory testing.
• Provides transportation of patients for discharge or transfer to other areas in the hospital.
• Cleans, stores, prepares and coordinates maintenance of medical equipment.
• Instructs patients as to test preparations according to planned procedure.
EDUCATION
- Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Preferred: Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program or US Military medical services training program.
WORK EXPERIENCE
- Required: 1 year Medical assistant experience - OR - With preferred education no experience is required.
- Preferred: 2 years of Medical Assistant experience.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Preferred: CMA - Certified Medical Asst American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA). Upon Hire
- Preferred: RMA - Reg Medical Assistant American Society of Medical Technologists (AMT). Upon Hire
- Preferred: CCMA - Cert Clinical Medical Asst National Healthcareer Association (NHA). Upon Hire
- Preferred: National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)-NCTT National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT). Upon Hire
- Preferred: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Upon Hire
