Librarian - Research Medical Library
The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center's Research Medical Library is seeking a dynamic and dedicated librarian to join our Research Services team. As a key member of our expert searchers, you will provide comprehensive literature searches and search consultations to our faculty and staff. This role also involves staffing the reference service during business hours. Enjoy the flexibility of a hybrid position, with most of your work performed remotely. Candidates must be located within the state of Texas.
The ideal candidate will have experience searching and utilizing library databases to gather and analyze information. A background in academic libraries is preferred, along with basic science knowledge to effectively support research needs. An understanding of medical terminology or a medical background will be beneficial for navigating and interpreting specialized content. The candidate should be detail-oriented, organized, and able to work independently while supporting a variety of research initiatives.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Expert Literature Searches and Consultations - Provides expert literature searches and search consultations to clients who seek clinical, medical, or scientific information.
Develops curriculum and teaches - Develops curriculum and teaches advanced searching and other research skills to students, faculty, and staff.
Reference Assistance - Provides general and in-depth reference assistance using available technologies for clients who seek clinical, medical, or scientific knowledge.
Other duties as assigned.
Education
Required: Master's degree in Library Information Science from a program accredited by the American Library Association.
Experience
Preferred: The preferred candidate will have experience with academic library systems and searching library databases. Basic science knowledge is preferred, as well as an understanding of medical terminology or a medical background to assist with specialized content. Experience in academic or medical research environments is highly desirable.
