Instructor, Research Faculty Appointment (RFA) - Department of Nursing
The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center seeks qualified applicants for a full-time Instructor, Research Faculty Appointment within the Department of Nursing. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to innovative research in cancer nursing, with a particular emphasis on symptoms, physical activity/exercise, and quality of life.
Position Overview
The successful candidate will collaborate with sponsoring faculty to design, implement, and evaluate original research studies aligned with departmental and institutional priorities. The role involves independent and team-based scholarship, with opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration across clinical settings.
Key Responsibilities:
• The candidate must be a self-motivated professional who interacts and communicates well with others at the professional, technical, and administrative levels by means of telephone, verbal, written, and electronic communication.
• In conjunction with sponsoring faculty, develops and maintains original, creative, and independent research projects with evidence of high quality and productivity.
• In conjunction with sponsoring faculty, collaborates with other investigators within the Department, MD Anderson Cancer Center, as well as other institutions, on new and ongoing research projects.
• Works closely with Principal Investigator/ Program Director (PI/PD) on overall research program.
• Initiates research projects and provides intellectual and technical solutions through administration of own skills or through assigning tasks to other staff members.
• Determines specific goals or objectives for projects, evaluates research data and develops and revises techniques or approaches to work. This might include the following: secondary supervision to pre-doctoral students, post-doctoral fellows and other junior research personnel; organizing and directing study meetings in the absence of the PI/PD.
• Presents lectures using visual aids to faculty, fellows, graduate students, and at other institutions in a clear and understandable manner.
• Submits research for publication in peer-reviewed journals with several as primary author.
• Collaborates with or assists with preparation of reports and grant submissions.
• Represents PI/PD at local, collaborative meetings. Reviews and evaluates research activity and data of the research team.
• Commutes (walk or drive) between departmental offices, the main campus, and collaborative institutions on a frequent basis.
Minimum Qualifications:
• A doctoral degree in a relevant behavioral, social, biological, or public health science is required. Registered Nurse (RN) licensure required.
• At least 2 years postdoctoral experience preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Previously participated in an appropriate academic, industrial or governmental research program.
• Has first-author or co-author publications in peer-reviewed journals.
• Knowledge and experience in theory, methodology and research related to symptom and oncology nursing science required.
• Success in obtaining peer-reviewed research funding highly desired or having served as a Co-Investigator on peer-reviewed research, with a major contributory role in the development and implementation of the research.
