Institute Mission
The mission of the Meyers Institute for Oncology Nursing is to support and develop nurses throughout their careers by providing educational, professional, and wellness-based resources tailored to cancer care nurses and nurse scientists. It will provide new educational and professional opportunities for nurses and nurse scientists to further advance their careers, including A.P.R.N. and R.N. cancer specialty fellowships and residencies. The Institute aims to position MD Anderson as a leader in the field of oncology nursing by establishing a model focused on nursing professionalism, elevating our training and work environments, and emphasizing individual career paths for nurses.

Organizational Relationships
The Head, Meyers Institute for Oncology Nursing reports to the Sr. Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer (CNO). The director of Nursing Transformation Programs, director of the Nurse Leadership Academy, and others within the institute report to this position. This position has a collaborative working relationship with the Division of Nursing and other institutional entities.  

Primary Function: 
The Head, Meyers Institute for Oncology Nursing is responsible for providing administrative leadership for the design, development and implementation of initiatives and strategies that align with the mission of the Meyers Institute. Assumes full administrative responsibility for all areas of the institute including budget and finance and long-range strategic planning. Leads the Institutes with a focus on nurse leadership and career development, nursing science, nursing innovation, and opportunities for nurses outside of  traditional clinical responsibilities The Head is responsible for ensuring the Institutes sustainability and success. 

Requires a highly collaborative and adaptable leadership competencies, with fluency and comfortability in the senior leadership space with the ability to translate down to the program level.  The Head represents the Institute in local, regional, state and national matters. 

Essential/Key Functions

•    Provides administrative leadership and assumes responsibility for the day-to-day administration management of the Institute.
•    Articulates the mission and vision of the Institute and develops and implements strategic and tactical plans to achieve its mission.
•    Develops and/or approves the annual operating plan, goals, and operational objectives of the Institute.
•    Reviews and approved all documents pertaining to the Institutes administration functions.
•    Participates in resolved administration issues and improvement Institute operations on an ongoing basis.
•    Requests, justifies, and manages Institute resources to meet goals effectively and efficiently, and ensures equitable treatment of all staff with respect to resources, titles, and salaries.
•    Completes performance evaluations on time and per institutional policy.
•    Partners with MD Anderson’s Philanthropy team to develop framework and relevant progress tracking for the initiatives as outlined by donors which will help to inform ongoing decision-making and course correction. Collaborates with the Philanthropy team to craft strategies that will engage new funding sources and donors.
•    Partners with the Finance team to ensure financial due diligence including approval and oversight of the budget for the Meyers Institute.
•    Leverages the expertise and creativity of MD Anderson’s Communications team to identify opportunities to spotlight the Institute internally and externally.
•    Builds and maintains valuable relationships with external bodies to advance the mission on the Meyers Institute beyond MD Anderson.

Education
Required: Master’s degree in nursing or related field

License: Registered Nurse

Preferred :Doctoral degree (PhD, EdD, and/or DNP) in nursing or related discipline from a nationally accredited institution of higher education. 



Experience

Required
Minimum of ten years in the following areas:
A progressive record of increasing academic leadership, scholarly achievement, and people development.
Providing leadership through a collaborative strategic planning process that draws out the best in others and inspires trust.
Working across a matrixed organization and leading transformative initiatives including developing and maintaining philanthropic relationships.

Preferred
Designing and leading innovative, transformative programs related to nursing.
Leading cross-departmental collaboration in large, complex health systems.
