Financial Analyst

SUMMARY
The primary purpose of the Financial Analyst position is to perform accounting and analytical duties to support external financial reporting. The key functions assigned to this position will include assisting with the analysis of financial data, report generation, data validation and account reconciliations. This position requires expertise in accounting and analysis and advanced proficiency with PeopleSoft Financials.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Preparation and analysis of external reports for The University of Texas System (UTS) and the State Comptroller’s Office
• Assist with the preparation of the Monthly Financial Report (MFR) for UTS.
• Prepare assigned Annual Financial Report (AFR) schedules for UTS.
• Assist with the preparation and distribution of the Quarterly Expense Reports.
• Process journal entries for transfers and eliminations of Pickens Investment, Notes Payable/Receivable, and Due To/From Related Party.
• Perform analysis to explain variances between current and prior year actual financial activity on the MFR and AFR.
• Investigate income statement and balance sheet variances in the AFR and provide explanations to UT System.
• Generate monthly encumbrance report for AFR reporting.
Preparation and review of audit related reports and charitable organization renewals
• Assists with the coordination of the annual external financial audit, including accumulation of prepared by client (PBC) information requested by the auditors at interim and year-end.
• Review audit work papers and other information prior to submission to the auditors and respond to follow-up questions posed by audit team.
• Provides financial data to Legal Office for various charitable organization registration renewals as requested.
Other Operational Duties
• Assist with various internal and external requests for information, including but not limited to, surveys from the Department of Commerce and Texas Medical Center and the State of Texas Comptroller’s Office.
• Assists with information related to the Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS).
• Prepare monthly account reconciliations and resolve all reconciling items.
• Complete the Annual Integrated Economic Survey

Required Education:
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related business specialty.
Required Experience:
Two years business experience to include project management, data analysis or accounting.
Preferred Experience:
- Intermediate/Advanced Excel and SmartView knowledge
- Financial Reporting
- PeopleSoft/OBIEE
- Management Information Systems background
Work Schedule:
This position has a hybrid onsite/remote schedule. Will be onsite weekly, may be a few times per week during September-October, depending on project deadlines.
