Equipment Technician - Patient Transportation | 9:45A -6:15P

The primary purpose of the the Equipment Technician, Patient Transportation is a critical role responsible for overseeing the management, maintenance, and availability of patient transportation equipment, including wheelchairs and stretchers. This position ensures that all equipment is in optimal condition, readily available for use, and efficiently organized to support the needs of the medical center. The coordinator will collaborate with internal teams, external vendors, and leadership to maintain equipment integrity and enhance overall patient transportation services.
The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years experience as an equipment aide, general maintenance, equipment management, inventory control, logistics, or facilities management in a health care environment.
Operational Shifts:(working alternating weekends and holidays is required)
6:45AM - 3:15PM (rotating weekends)
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Equipment Inventory, Ordering, Maintenance. and Repairs
· Oversee the routine maintenance and repair of patient transportation equipment, ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.
· Conduct regular inspections of wheelchairs and stretchers to identify and address any maintenance needs promptly.
· Coordinate with external vendors for repairs requiring specialized expertise, ensuring timely completion and adherence to safety standards.
· Maintain an accurate inventory of all patient transportation equipment, including wheelchairs and stretchers.
· Implement asset tagging for effective monitoring and reconciliation of equipment usage and availability.
· Develop and maintain a systematic inventory management system to track equipment status, location, and condition.
· Assess equipment needs based on usage patterns and coordinate the ordering of new equipment as necessary.
· Work with purchasing departments to ensure timely procurement of replacement parts and new equipment.
· Monitor and manage equipment stock levels to prevent shortages and ensure adequate supply in high-volume areas.
Vendor and Client Relationship Management
· Liaise with transportation team members and departmental leaders to communicate equipment availability, shortages, and any issues impacting service delivery.
· Foster strong relationships with internal stakeholders to understand their equipment needs and address concerns promptly.
· Provide regular updates to leadership regarding equipment status, usage trends, and identified challenges.
· Maintain effective relationships with external vendors for equipment repairs and servicing.
· Communicate repair needs and coordinate logistics with vendors to ensure timely service delivery.
· Review and reconcile invoices for equipment repairs completed by external vendors, ensuring accuracy and appropriateness of charges.
Equipment Rounding and Documentation
· Conduct routine equipment rounds in designated areas to assess the condition and availability of wheelchairs and stretchers.
· Ensure that storage areas for equipment are clean, organized, and accessible, promoting efficient retrieval and usage.
· Develop and implement processes for staging equipment in high-volume areas to facilitate prompt patient transport.
· Maintain accurate records of equipment maintenance, repairs, inventory levels, and procurement activities.
· Generate reports on equipment usage, maintenance schedules, and any incidents related to equipment availability or condition.
· Analyze data to identify trends and make recommendations for improvements in equipment management practices.
Other duties as assigned. May be moved to new locations and/or shifts as operations dictate. Cross training may also involve shift changes.
REQUIREMENTS
Education
Required: High School or equivalent
Preferred: Mechanical and/or trade school courses
Experience
Required: 3 years experience as an equipment aide, general maintenance, equipment management, inventory control, logistics or facilities management in a health care environment.
