The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is conducting a national search for Chair of the Department of Thoracic Radiation Oncology. This leader will establish the vision for, guide the development of faculty in, and oversee all operations and functions in the department. Successful candidates will be accomplished academics and experienced leaders. The Department of Thoracic Radiation Oncology is part of the Division of Radiation Oncology, with the Chair reporting to the Division Head of Radiation Oncology.
The Chair of Thoracic Radiation Oncology will be charged with leading a nationally recognized department. The Chair will also provide oversight for the multidisciplinary care of patients with lung, thymic, and esophageal cancers. The clinical facilities of MD Anderson incorporate the most advanced radiotherapy and imaging technologies, including photon therapy, proton therapy, and stereotactic radiotherapy. The department supports a comprehensive thoracic radiation therapy service at the Texas Medical Center and our Houston-area locations. The Thoracic Radiation Oncology Department is led by faculty physicians and scientists who have robust, extramurally funded research programs that encompass basic, translational, and clinical research initiatives. The faculty serve as Principal Investigators in clinical trials at MD Anderson and across our Cancer Network.
The Chair is responsible for providing leadership and assumes full responsibility for all areas of the department, including, but not limited to, direct patient care; basic, translational, and clinical research within the department; faculty development and evaluation; integration of educational programs; finance and budgeting; and departmental strategic planning that aligns with institutional direction. The Chair inspires professional growth by ensuring career development opportunities and mentorship for department faculty and trainees, as well as fostering a positive work environment that emphasizes collaboration, collegiality, and wellness for all.
The Chair will also represent the department, division, and institution in local, regional, state, and national matters.
Qualifications
· 10 years of experience post clinical degree
· M.D. or equivalent degree
· Board certification in the American Board of Radiology in Radiation Oncology
· Eligible for unrestricted Texas medical licensure
· Demonstration of clinical excellence and performance
· Administrative experience at a departmental or institutional level
· Proven track record of successful and independent clinical or translational research and grant or protocol funding
· Consistent record of contributions to education or training and to mentoring of trainees, faculty, or staff
· Progressive leadership experience in an academic setting, preferred experience in an oncologic setting
· Ability to function effectively in a matrix organization characterized by complex intra- and inter-disciplinary relationships
