The Department Administrator plays a critical role in ensuring the effective coordination of clinical, administrative, and operational activities that support safe, high-quality patient care. This position provides oversight of departmental operations, facilitates communication across faculty, staff, and institutional partners, and ensures compliance with institutional policies and regulatory requirements. By supporting efficient workflows, resource planning, and operational alignment, the role enhances the experience of patients, faculty, trainees, and referring providers while helping the department maintain high standards of quality, safety, and service.
 

The successful candidate will demonstrate high emotional intelligence and a collaborative leadership style, with proven effectiveness in managing relationships across faculty, staff, and leadership teams. Experience navigating differing perspectives, managing conflict constructively, and building trust among stakeholder is essential. Strong team building capabilities and the ability to develop clear reports and communicate effectively with faculty and staff are critical for success in this role. In addition, the ideal candidate will bring experience in clinical operations, faculty scheduling, budget planning, faculty recruitment, supporting growth across multiple sites, and strategic space planning. Experience within academic medicine or healthcare, particularly in a clinical environment, is strongly preferred.

KEY FUNCTIONS: 
1) Prepares, justifies, administers and monitors budgets for the Department of Diagnostic Radiology and its related programmatic areas with recognition of institutional guidelines and in accordance with strategic plans.

2) Directs all facets of human resource management including recruitment, selection, credentialing, and performance evaluations. Manages the recruitment, appointment/credentialing, promotion and tenure actions for faculty appointments, and educational appointees. Requests incremental positions using approved processes with data driven justifications.

3) In collaboration with the department Chair, develops both long- and short-term strategic business and operations plans for the department. Implements and evaluates plans to achieve financial and operational results for the Department which reflect departmental, divisional and institutional goals and objectives.

4) Manages the administrative responsibilities of grants, contracts, internal funding and other contractual agreements.  Ensures the timely submission of proposals or agreements which meet institutional mandates; obtains exceptions, if necessary, to institutional guidelines..

5) Implements institutional, department, and division policies and procedures in overseeing and directly administering daily activities.  Performs and monitors completion of Conflict-of-Interest Certificates, Effort Reports, and Physician Time Allocation Surveys when allocating percentages to research.

Other duties as assigned. 

EDUCATION:
Required: Bachelor's Degree
Preferred: Master's Degree (MBA or MHA). 

EXPERIENCE:
Required: Seven years progressive and responsible healthcare / research or business management experience to include three years in a management role. Five years progressive and responsible healthcare, research or business management experience to include three years in a management role, with Master's degree. Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate and/or LEADing Self Discover programs may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience. Completion of both programs can be substituted for a maximum of two years of supervisory or management experience.

Preferred: Experience in clinical operations, faculty scheduling, budget planning, faculty recruitment, supporting growth across multiple sites, and strategic space planning. Experience within academic medicine or healthcare, particularly in a clinical environment, is strongly preferred.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 
Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
