Coding Training Coordinator
The Coordinator, Coding Training plays a critical role within the Revenue and Operations Coding Department by supporting outpatient coding accuracy, education, and compliance through structured training and auditing initiatives. The Coordinator, Coding Training partners closely with coding professionals, leadership, and internal stakeholders to ensure high-quality coded data that aligns with institutional standards and regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate for the Coordinator, Coding Training role meets the education, work experience, and licensure or certification requirements outlined below and brings a strong foundation in outpatient coding, training delivery, and audit support, with the ability to communicate effectively, apply official coding guidance, and support continuous improvement in coding quality and compliance.
Typical Work Schedule: Flexible start times from 6am - 8am for a total of 40 hours per week. ( Monday - Friday)
Work Location: Remote - Must be able to come onsite as needed.

Responsibilities
People and Service
• Communicate effectively with outpatient coding team members, management, peers, business office staff, and external customers regarding coding-related requests
• Provide supportive and constructive feedback to management and outpatient coders related to quality reviews, coding education, and training initiatives
• Stay current with coding updates and proactively share knowledge using official coding guidelines, coding clinics, and other authoritative resources
• Respond promptly to internal and external reviews requiring clarification of LCD, NCD, NCCI edits, or other coding accuracy inquiries
Development and Innovation
• Assist leadership, peers, and coders by answering questions related to coding workflows and clarification of diagnoses and procedures
• Identify educational opportunities through internal and external quality audits to protect data quality and integrity
• Develop and deliver training and education tailored to novice, intermediate, and advanced coding staff with varied learning styles
Quality, Audit, and Training
• Design and produce effective training and audit materials to support outpatient coding functions
• Monitor and evaluate the quality of coded data in accordance with institutional, departmental, and compliance standards
• Maintain high standards of coding quality when recommending changes during internal and external quality reviews
• Provide accurate coding recommendations using ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, and CPT-4 based on medical record documentation and official coding guidelines
• Apply appropriate modifiers and Evaluation and Management CPT coding in accordance with LCD, NCD, and NCCI methodologies
• Utilize EPIC, CodeRyte, CodeAssist, and coding books to support accurate coding practices
• Comply with ethical coding standards established by AHIMA, AAPC, AHA, AMA, and regulatory agencies including CMS and WHO
• Perform additional coding-related functions within scope of responsibility as requested
EDUCATION
- Required: Associate's Degree Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, or related healthcare field.
- Preferred: Bachelor's Degree Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, or related healthcare field.
WORK EXPERIENCE
- Required: 5 years Experience in inpatient/outpatient coding to include two years of coding training. or
- Required: 3 years Coding experience to include two years of coding training experience with preferred degree.
- May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis.
