Clinical Nurse – Radiation Oncology (Weekend Per Diem)
Location: The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center – Houston, TX
Schedule: Weekends – Saturday and Sunday (hours vary based on patient census)

Position Summary
This per diem nursing role supports the Department of Radiation Oncology on weekends. The Clinical Nurse is responsible for managing the care of hospitalized patients who are transported to the Radiation Oncology department to receive scheduled radiation treatments. This position plays a vital role in ensuring safe, efficient care during weekend hours.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have:

A minimum of 3 years of nursing experience

Oncology experience
-
Ambulatory or radiation oncology experience

Strong critical thinking and clinical assessment skills

Flexibility to work variable weekend hours based on patient census
Key Responsibilities
-
Coordinate care for inpatients receiving outpatient radiation treatments

Work closely with inpatient units, transport teams, and Radiation Oncology providers to ensure timely and safe transitions

Assess and monitor patients throughout their treatment visits for signs of complications or acute needs

Document nursing assessments, communications, and interventions accurately and efficiently

Provide appropriate patient support and treatment-related education during visits

Communicate effectively with all members of the care team to support continuity of care
Education Required: Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.
Preferred: One year of registered nurse (RN) work experience.
Certificate/Licensure Required: Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN). Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification. Advanced Cardiac Life Support(ACLS) certification if working in the following department: ASC Post Anesthesia (600761). Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) if working in the following departments: ASC Post Anesthesia (600761) or Pedi - Child & Adolescent Center (113200).
