Clinical Nurse, Outpatient - Ambulatory Clinics
Seeking an experienced Oncology Nurse to join our team at the West Houston area location. With multiple locations around Houston, our experience and services extend into your neighborhood. Our patients have convenient, comfortable access to world-class cancer care in their community, close to where they live and work. MD Anderson provides medical oncology, radiation oncology and surgical oncology services along with a range of supportive programs at all of its Greater Houston area locations. At MD Anderson West Houston, patients in Katy, Memorial, Spring Branch and the surrounding Energy Corridor have convenient access to top-ranked, comprehensive cancer care.
The ideal candidate is a licensed Registered Nurse with a minimum of one year of clinical experience, preferably within oncology or an outpatient ambulatory care setting. This individual demonstrates strong critical thinking abilities and approaches patient care with proactive problem solving and sound clinical judgment. Adaptability is essential, as the role requires navigating evolving patient needs, collaborating across disciplines, and contributing to a supportive, patient centered environment. The schedule for this position is Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm.

KEY FUNCTIONS
Transformational Leadership:
• Organizes and prioritizes work of the patient care team, including administration of chemotherapy/biotherapy agents, pump connects /disconnects, administration of antibiotic therapy, administration of IV fluids, rapid response to chemotherapy reactions/ emergencies, IV starts, etc.
• Assures continuity of care as patients transition across the continuum through appropriate patient education and coordination of services.
Structural Empowerment:
• Accountable for identifying barriers to patient care and solutions.
• Active in developing strong relationships and partnerships with the organization to improve patient outcomes.
Exemplary Professional Practice:
• Trains, coaches and assists team members to ensure optimum patient care and efficient use of resources.
• Demonstrates clinical competency and compassion in providing care, using technology, administering medications, performing procedures and managing emergencies.
• Responsible for coverage for Surgical Oncology and Infusion patients as necessary.
• Collaborates with physicians, other services, patient and patient's family to plan care and evaluate outcomes.
New Knowledge, Innovation, and Improvements:
• Improves practice by integrating results and theories of research studies.
• Participates in /leads evidenced based practice projects.
• Participates in the redesign of care delivery for unit/center patient population.
Empirical Quality Results:
• Actively reports using the Good Catch and incident reporting systems.
• Collaborates with others in quality and performance improvement efforts.
• Documents care according to established standards.
EDUCATION
- Required: Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.
- Preferred: Bachelor's Degree Nursing.
WORK EXPERIENCE
- Preferred: At least one year of experience as a Registered Nurse
- Preferred: Prior Oncology experience.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Required: RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license. Upon Hire
- Required: BLS - Basic Life Support or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Upon Hire
- Required: ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support If working in the following department: ASC Post Anesthesia (600761) or PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support If working in the following departments: ASC Post Anesthesia (600761) or Pedi - Child & Adolescent Center (113200). Upon Hire
- Preferred: OCN - Oncology Nurse Certification Certification in specialty practice area. Upon Hire
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: All clinical nurses with less than one year of registered nurse (RN) work experience will be required to participate in the Clinical Nurse Residency Program.
