Associate Patient Access Representative -
The Access Operations Department at MD Anderson Cancer Center plays a vital role in ensuring patients can connect seamlessly with the care they need. It focuses on scheduling, patient access support, and operational efficiency so that clinical teams can maximize their time with patients and deliver world-class cancer care.
The primary responsibility of the Associate Patient Access Representative is to facilitate accurate, efficient, and courteous access to services for new patients.
The ideal candidate will be internal to the GI Service Line. Experience requesting medical records in a call-center type of environment is also preferred.
This is a hybrid position and may require flexibility to be onsite as needed to support business operations.

Job-Specific Competencies
Registration
- Collects complete and accurate demographic and financial data during the intake process to ensure appropriate financial screening of new patients.
- Verifies data during new patient registration to ensure compliance with required forms and consents.
- Provides financial information to patients obtained during the verification process by Financial Clearance staff, including cost estimates, discounts, and patient financial assistance.
Patient Access
- Develops an understanding of the importance of using medical acceptance criteria to screen and schedule appointments for new patients to support optimal clinic efficiency.
- Clearly and professionally communicates information during all patient interactions. Follows established customer service guidelines and strives to meet all reasonable patient requests. Routinely routes patients to the appropriate destination with a warm transfer whenever possible.
- Supports the implementation of new departmental tools, support systems, and operational models designed to improve access to care and enhance employee workflow.
- Completely and accurately captures and documents communications with payors, patients, and the treatment team, using established guidelines for each area while demonstrating appropriate prioritization and urgency.
Oral and Written Communication
- Uses excellent oral communication and active listening skills to communicate with patients, referral sources, MDACC physicians, and MDACC clinical staff regarding obstacles to access or financial clearance.
- Responds to voicemail and MyChart messages within one business day and answers phone calls in a timely manner (within three rings).
- Completely and accurately documents communications with payors, patients, and the treatment team.
Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION
Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required: Two years Healthcare, insurance, or related field.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
