Summary

The Application Systems Analyst provides technical production support to ensure application stability, optimal performance, and timely resolution of system issues across the institution. This role requires functional and technical expertise to support enterprise clinical and business applications, including system assessment, design, implementation, and ongoing maintenance. The analyst collaborates with users, IT teams, and vendors to deliver high‑quality solutions that enhance operational workflows and patient care.

 

Major Work Activities

Technical Analysis & Application Support

  • Conduct process analysis, feasibility studies, functional requirements assessments, workflow reviews, and clinical/operational evaluations.
  • Provide consultation to end users by observing workflows, analyzing business processes, and implementing system improvements.
  • Lead sessions with user groups for database building, data collection, cataloging information, and documenting functionality specifications.
  • Assist in developing strategies, policies, procedures, and standards related to HIPAA, change management, disaster recovery, and security.
  • Collaborate with internal IT teams and vendors to resolve application issues.
  • Develop expertise in supported applications and departmental workflows to optimize systems and support patient care.
  • Maintain comprehensive electronic documentation for application and technical environments.
  • Enforce system standards to ensure compliance with government regulations and institutional policies.
  • Identify and escalate system issues and coordinate priority response for mission‑critical outages.
  • Support troubleshooting of desktop, hardware, and network issues by providing application‑specific insight.
  • Participate in and support upgrade activities by ensuring application compatibility with new hardware and software environments.
  • Coordinate and contribute to contingency, back‑out, recovery, and cutover plans.
  • Provide end‑user support during operational hours, including 24/7 environments.
  • Respond promptly to support calls, prioritizing those impacting patient care or critical operations.
  • Assist users with application questions, proper use, and issue troubleshooting.
  • Understand customer business needs and leverage application functionality to support them.
  • Complete database changes, service requests, and system builds accurately and efficiently.
  • Maintain and build system and reference files following established standards.

Participation in System Implementation

  • Apply knowledge of the technical environment to all project activities.
  • Provide input or leadership in developing milestones, deliverables, project plans, and timelines.
  • Analyze technical requirements and assist with solution development or selection.
  • Evaluate technical and business impacts of new technology and provide guidance to project teams and customers.
  • Document hardware and software architecture.
  • Design and configure forms, screens, tables, outputs, and interfaces to meet business needs.
  • Develop and maintain technical skills to support system administration and configuration.
  • Assist team members in developing configuration skills.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve application/implementation issues and follow through to resolution.
  • Ensure technical design and security access meet institutional and regulatory standards.
  • Prepare and execute test plans and scripts, document results, and ensure resolution of high‑priority issues.
  • Assist in creating backup, disaster recovery, business continuity, and redundancy strategies.
  • Document system technical requirements.
  • Provide on‑site support during system go‑lives.
  • Coordinate with other IT departments to deliver project outcomes.

Expertise in Best Practices

  • Develop expertise in best practices outlined in the “System Life Cycle Guidelines.”
  • Apply industry best practices to system acquisition, development, implementation, and maintenance.

Coaching & Development

  • Provide mentoring and on‑the‑job training to co‑workers regarding routine tasks, coordination duties, and advanced topics.

Support of Multiple Applications

  • Deliver technical and customer support for multiple clinical and operational applications.

Required Education: Bachelor's degree. 

Required Experience: Two years experience in Epic software, domain, analysis, design, project management, or programming. May substitute require education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis. 

Preferred Experience: 
- Working experience in technical requirements gathering and workflow analysis for applications maintenance and support in a healthcare environment.
- Understanding of the technical operations of client server applications. 
- Working knowledge of supporting interfaces client server applications.
- 2-5 years of clinical experience in technical application support and/or workflow analysis.

Work Schedule: Training is onsite 2 days per week for 6-8 weeks. After training, this will be a remote position. Because of the schedule, prefer a local Houston candidate. No out of town or out of state.
