Advanced Practice Provider - Surgical Oncology Inpatient

The Surgical Oncology Department at MD Anderson Cancer Center is a department that offers seven specialties (Acute Care Surgical Oncology & General Surgery, Endocrine surgery, Gastric-peritoneal surface surgery, Hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) surgery, Melanoma surgery, Pediatric surgery, Sarcoma surgery). Providers in these specialty disciplines assess, plan treatment, and provide surgical services to patients with goals that include improving survival, shortening recovery, maximizing quality of life, and minimizing treatment-related side effects. ​​​​​​​

Advanced Practice Provider (APP) – Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) – Surgical Oncology Operating Room (OR) - INPATIENT.

The ideal candidate will have prior Operating Room experience as a Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.

Salary Range:  Minimum $117,500.00 -  Midpoint $146,500.00 -  Maximum $176,500.00

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Patient Care: Collaborate with physician and clinical team to manage patients in one or multiple areas of the department (GI, Melanoma, Sarcoma, Endocrine, Port Clinic, Breast Cancer). Employee will demonstrate population-based competencies across the continuum of care. Employee performs history and physical assessment and collaborates with physician to prescribe tests and interpret results as well as provide appropriate treatment.
The employee will optimize practice autonomy within their professional scope while collaborating with the multidisciplinary team in their particular assigned areas.

• Outpatient Clinic APP – Employee assigned to outpatient clinic will manage new patients, follow-up patients, post-op patients, survivorship and surveillance patients in collaboration with physician and clinic team.

• Operating Room – Employee with operating room privileges and responsibilities will assist in surgery as allowed by certification and scope. Employee will perform pre-operative assessments and evaluate immediate post-operative status as well as interpret tests and prescribe appropriate treatment.

• Inpatient Care – Employee assigned to inpatient care will manage patients during hospitalization and post-surgery in collaboration with clinical team. Employee will participate in evaluation and management of patients referred for surgical consults.

Medical Knowledge
Employee demonstrates medical knowledge of care of Surgical Oncology patients. Employee will develop and demonstrate proficiency in the skills necessary for care of patients in their practice area.
Employee will engage in ongoing learning opportunities and share knowledge and expertise with other staff and trainees. Employee will engage in and promote the institution’s discovery/research efforts to improve patient outcomes.
