Actionable Findings Vigilant Unit (AFVU) Coordinator
The AFVU Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting timely, accurate, and complete follow-up of actionable findings across the institution. As part of the Actionable Findings Vigilance Unit, this position ensures that critical results are communicated, acknowledged, and acted upon by the appropriate care teams, helping safeguard patient care and strengthening continuity across clinical services. By monitoring findings, coordinating with providers, and facilitating closed-loop communication, the AFVU Coordinator contributes directly to MD Anderson’s commitment to delivering safe, responsive, and highly coordinated patient care.
Team members in the AFVU support a workflow that is essential to early intervention, quality outcomes, and ensuring no actionable finding goes unresolved.

**This remote position requires occasional onsite presence (usually at least 1 time a month) but could require more, as needed. The ideal candidate will have experience analyzing pathology and diagnostic imaging reports to identify actionable recommendations**
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Dashboard Monitoring
• Takes appropriate actions according to the AFVU workflow for actionable findings including identifying and contacting the necessary ordering provider or care team to address findings in AFVU work queue.
• Follow up to ensure alerts are acknowledged, appropriate orders are placed, and all required actions are taken within defined timelines for findings in the AFVU work queue.
• Longitudinally monitors findings to close the loop with providers/care team and ensure patient care is appropriately rendered.
• Renders timely, accurate documentation of disposition and actions taken.
• Serves as a resource for understanding best practices related to AFVU.
Care Coordination
• Notifies providers of recommendations for recommended actions including follow up imaging, lab work, clinical referrals or other.
• Uses comprehensive communication skills to communicate clinical concerns and relevant information to providers and care teams.
• Utilizes EHR and standard medical knowledge to effectively navigate the system to locate and communicate to the proper provider.
• Ensures patient studies are read and available.
• Interprets and coordinates providers' orders to schedule diagnostic tests and/or referrals.
• Communicates information regarding patient studies to appropriate clinical personnel.
• Coordinates information flow and serves as liaison between DI and clinical/ancillary areas.
• Coordinates patient appointments with patient and patient's care team.
• Communicates with clinical staff and other team members to perform add-on scheduling, callbacks, reschedules and emergencies.
• Escalates non-response when appropriate.
• Communicates with clinical staff and external facilities about pathology reports and ensures proper acknowledgement.
AFVU Management
• Follows all standard operating procedures, policies, and instructions as set by MD Anderson, the Diagnostics Operations Division, and Pathology Lab Medicine Division.
• Acquires and demonstrates competency in core knowledge of cancer and MD Anderson resources, policies, and practices, and efficiently utilizes internal databases and approved resources.
• Assists in maintaining a physically and psychologically safe environment for patients, co-workers and visitors.
• Coordinates ordering of office and/or medical supplies for area
• Establishes, maintains and continually updates day-to-day operations.
EDUCATION
Required: Bachelor's Degree Nursing.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required: 3 years Oncology clinical nursing experience in a hospital or clinic setting.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
Required: State of Texas Professional Nursing License (RN) and BLS - Basic Life or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
