SUMMARY

The primary purpose of the Accountant I is to provide administrative support for Asset Management and Records Management Operations. The position will monitor, maintain, and reconcile account activities related to surplus auction sales, asset tagging activity, capital asset transfers, and handheld scanner distribution during the annual inventory of capital and controlled assets.  In addition, the position will provide customer service assistance along with providing back-up support for Records Management during limited staffing incidents.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Financial Reconciliation:  
monitor and reconcile financial activities related to auction sales, Asset Management and Records Management expenditures. Responsible for reconciling the ChartField String for the General Accounting – Asset Control department.

 Assist with Inventory Processes & Reporting:   work with management in assisting institutional users on the proper way to manage the asset lifecycle. In addition, assist with various asset inventory reporting and updates to the PeopleSoft asset registry.

 Property Administrator/Officer Program:   assist with maintenance to the POPA table in Peoplesoft and track training for new property officers and delegates.

Manage Inventory Scanners/Scan Data:    assist management with bar code scanner distribution and data transfer during the annual inventory process. Process includes MUCI uploads to update inventory dates.

 TDCJ Reconciliation:  prepare itemization of Texas Department of Criminal Justice inter-agency transfer of equipment reconciling against the PeopleSoft asset registry.

 Records Management:  update monthly statistics on record activity and serve as backup on institutional records operations.

 Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting or related. 

Preferred Education: Master's degree. 

Experience: One year of experience required with degree in Business Administration or related field. With a degree in Accounting, no experience is required. May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis. 

Preferred Experience: Five years of accounting experience, intermediate excel, detail and deadline oriented.

Onsite Presence: Hybrid / Onsite. This individual will work onsite 3-4 days per week. This is an office and warehouse environment.
